Figures from the Health Survey for England show that among two- to10-year-olds, 19 per cent of girls are expected to be obese, compared to13 per cent of boys. However, among 11- to 15-year-olds, just over athird of boys are expected to be obese, compared to just under a thirdof girls.
Claire Phillips, director of policy at the Office of the Children'sCommissioner, warned there was no "magic bullet" for the problem.However, she said it was vital for pre-school settings to play a moreactive role to prevent children becoming overweight.
