At a meeting of the council on Tuesday (15 March), Liberal Democrat councillor Tammy Palmer urged members to back the motion in a moving speech about her own lived experience of the care system.

She described being taken into emergency foster care at 18 months old before being adopted shortly before her eighteenth birthday.

Palmer went to university but ended up homeless when her relationship with her adoptive family broke down leaving her forced to register as homeless.

A ground-breaking motion was then subsequently passed in support of the ‘Show us you care too’ campaign. pic.twitter.com/Gy0hJnAlTH
