GMC suspends Baby Peter's GP Jerome Ikwueke for a year

Health Social Care
Baby Peter's GP Jerome Ikwueke has been suspended from practising as a doctor for 12 months.

Ikwueke was found guilty by the General Medical Council of a series of breaches of his professional duty last week.

The GMC’s Fitness to Practise Panel found that he failed to pass on information about the toddler’s injuries to child protection specialists or consider the possibility that he was the victim of abuse. Ikwueke's patients had given testimonies at the hearing in his support.

The GMC announced this week that it is reviewing its child protection guidance for doctors.
