Second Baby P doctor suspended

The General Medical Council (GMC) has suspended a second doctor connected to the Baby P case in Haringey.

Dr Jerome Ikwueke was suspended by the council's interim orders panel on Tuesday while an investigation commences.

Although the panel imposed an 18-month suspension on Ikwueke no suspension hearing date has been set and the action will be reviewed in six months.

Baby P died following months of abuse. Last November, Baby P's mother, her boyfriend and lodger were all convicted of causing his death.

When Baby P died he was on the child protection register and was seen by professionals 60 times.

In November last year the GMC suspended locum paediatrician Dr Sabah al-Zayyat for 18 months, in connection with the case.
