Andrew Christie, who is currently chairman of Birmingham Children's Trust as well as chair of the Adoption Leadership Board, has received a CBE for services to children.
His social work career spans more than 40 years and before joining Birmingham he was until last year the DCS at the tri-borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, and Westminster councils.
During his final year leading children's services for the tri-borough, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea became the first local authorities to be handed Ofsted's highest single inspection framework rating of "outstanding".
His successor at the three London boroughs, Clare Chamberlain, has also been handed a CBE. She was previously director of family services at Kensington & Chelsea.
Other senior children's professionals honoured include Slough's children's services commissioner Eleanor Brazil, who gets an OBE. Last month Ofsted said that services for children and families in the town were improving, less than a year after they rated it as inadequate.
