The area was one of one of two ‘pathfinder’ areas, alongside the Southeast of England, which last year received Department for Education funding to develop a regional care co-operative (RCC).

The Greater Manchester RCC, which is the first to become a permanent body, will be funded by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and covers 10 council areas.

GMCA says that following “the success of this new collaborative approach” over the last year it will fund the programme for a further 12 months.

Work by the Greater Manchester RCC includes developing a “forecasting tool” to identify placement trends and placement gaps across the region.
