The Government's public services policy review says giving pupilsindividual targets could be the best way to improve results, which inturn would attract more children and funding to a school.
The Building on progress: Public services report also suggestsencouraging schools to offer extra support to the most gifted and themost disadvantaged children, and developing ways of involving parentswith their children's learning such as phoning ahead of parents'evenings.
More parenting classes through schools and a greater use of mentors arealso proposed and children from deprived areas could be given creditsthat would pay for catch-up lessons in English and maths. Familyintervention projects, which target deprived and disadvantaged families,could be extended under the proposals.
