Every Child Matters: Fact-finding mission launched to assess the impact of reforms

Tony Blair has launched a fact-finding mission to gauge the impact of the Every Child Matters reforms.

Top officials from the Prime Minister's Office are scouring the countryfor evidence that the reforms are reducing youth crime, driving up examresults and improving community cohesion. It is understood that Blairwants to present Chancellor Gordon Brown with a cast iron case forspending on children's services before he steps down.

The results will also inform the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review andset the tone for Labour's bid to win a fourth term in office.

Christine Davies, director of children's services at Telford and WrekinCouncil, said officials were interested in two areas: "The positiveimpact of Every Child Matters on the children who are most vulnerable -the high-risk, high-harm group - and they wanted to see how Every ChildMatters has helped secure and raise educational outcomes."
