Early years review chair seeks views on training

Early years professionals, parents and employers are being called upon to give their views on what training and qualifications staff working in childcare and early education need.

Professor Cathy Nutbrown, who is leading an independent review of early years qualifications, has launched a call for evidence to gather opinions on how training, qualifications and career opportunities for those involved in early education can be strengthened.

The review is focusing on the content of qualifications, the knowledge and experience of staff; career progressions and motivation; and raising the status of early education and childcare.

Nutbrown said: "It's vital that we have a professional, diverse and confident workforce who feel equipped to do their job well. They are often the unsung heroes of the children's workforce.

"I will look at how to improve the rigour and quality of current training and qualifications, and create a clear route for career progression."
