Early years providers urged to boost quality

Early Years
The Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA) has launched a quality improvement scheme in response to the government's increased focus on the standard of the early years workforce.

Reflecting on Quality encourages early years settings to evaluate and improve their provision in the context of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The accreditation scheme builds on the Alliance's previous programme Aiming for Quality, with added importance placed on parent involvement and play-based learning.

Michael Freeston, director of quality improvement at PLA, said: "Reflecting on Quality can reflect to parents, professionals and the wider community that settings are serious about listening to parents and children's views on quality."

PLA is the second organisation to update its guidance in light of the extra emphasis the EYFS places on self-evaluation. The National Childminding Association created a downloadable tool, Being Self Reflective, earlier this month.
