Dyslexia campaigners are urging the government to pay for every school in England to have a specialist dyslexia teacher.

Kate Griggs, founder of charity Xtraordinary People, delivered an "end of school report" to the government calling on more support for dyslexic children and their families.

The report revealed almost nine out of 10 private schools have dyslexia specialists and nearly all screen children for dyslexia and specific learning difficulties as soon as they experience problems with learning.

The charity wants state schools to do the same.

Griggs said: "We're not asking the Government to spend more money; we're asking them not to waste any more money.

"£990m has been budgeted for personalised learning to help children catch up. £40m - just four per cent of this - would provide every school in the country with £1,500; the cost of specialist dyslexia training per teacher."

Xtraordinary People said one of the biggest reasons for educational failure in this country is dyslexia and specific learning difficulties which affects as many as one in five children.
