Don't Push Me Around, a report by children's charities Whizz-Kidz andBarnardo's on children's wheelchair services in the UK, warns the needsof disabled children are going unmet because a shortage of NHS cashmeans they are only able to access very basic wheelchairs.
Ruth Owen, chief executive of Whizz-Kidz, said: "Anyone who cares aboutchildren should agree this is an outrage. A child would not be expectedto wait six months for a new pair of shoes if they had outgrown them, yet children are regularly being told by the NHS they must wait forwheelchair provision."
NHS funding for wheelchair services has not been reviewed for 15 yearsand some children have had to wait years for initial referrals, says thereport.
