DfE confirms ministerial responsibilities

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson was announced as Education Secretary on 5 July, the day after the Labour Party’s landslide win at the general election, with ministers named shortly after.

However, a delay in signing-off individual portfolios by 10 Downing Street led to slow confirmation of ministerial portfolios which were not confirmed until 23 July.

Portfolios include a new brief of early education minister which has been handed to Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South, who has previously held the role of shadow schools minister, while former social worker Janet Daby has been confirmed as children's minister.
