
To mark the milestone the government department has received a ‘gold standard’ from charity Kinship’s Kinship Friendly Employer Scheme.
This is only awarded to employers who implement human resources policies that support their kinship carer workforce, who are supporting the child of a family member or friend.
Kinship chief executive Lucy Peake hopes other government departments “will follow their lead”.
“When employers introduce policies to support kinship carers in the workforce, it enables kinship carers to remain in work, protecting their incomes and career prospects,” she said.
“Kinship care leave provides crucial time to help children settle into their new home after experiencing significant trauma, separation and loss.”
