
Alan Yentob has resigned as the BBC's creative director in the wake of controversy over his role as chairman of the Kids Company charity. The BBC reports that Yentob said speculation and scrutiny over his role in the collapse of the charity was "proving a serious distraction" when the BBC was in "particularly challenging times".
Numbers of new cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) recorded by healthcare providers rose in the third quarter of this year, statistics show. Figures published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre show that there were 1,385 newly recorded cases of FGM reported between July and September this year, compared with 1,036 new cases in the previous quarter.

Britain needs to take a “more assertive stance” on the advertising and marketing of junk food to children, the chief executive of NHS England has said. The Telegraph reports that Simon Stevens said health service leaders needed to do more to “change the tide of opinion” in favour of a clampdown on sugary fare.
