CWDC's definition of social work faces criticism

1 min read Social Care
Social workers have strongly criticised a description of their job, which has been put out for consultation by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

The CWDC was asked by the Social Work Task Force to work with frontline staff and employers to develop a statement about the roles and tasks social workers should perform, as well as the skills and knowledge they need in children's services.

The 14-page description is now open for consultation.

Hilton Dawson, chief executive of BASW, said: "If Sir Paul Ennals really wants to support the ‘special' people who are ‘among the unsung heroes of our society' he should stop using his organisation's millions of public money to divide our profession between those who work with children and in adult services."
