The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has warned the government not to lose sight of strong partnerships and professional development in the early years and social care sectors ahead of its closure at the end of the month.

In three final reports the CWDC warned that the Department for Education (DfE), and the other government agencies taking over its work, must keep the promotion of integrated working and skills of care workers and early years professionals as priorities.

The council reported that it is particularly concerned that the Department for Education will fail to promote partnerships across children’s sector training.

It said the coalition government has "said little explicitly about integrated working" since coming to power, despite a number of reviews including those of Professor Eileen Munro and Graham Allen, which acknowledge partnership working as integral to successful professional development.

The CWDC’s report on integrated working states: "This lack of a clear government steer is resulting in an uncoordinated approach across departments."
