Balls throws criticism back at social worker association

1 min read Social Care
Children's Secretary Ed Balls has challenged the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) to do its job more effectively.

Answering criticism from BASW chief executive Hilton Dawson during the Local Government Association's National Children and Adult Services Conference today, Balls said social workers had to communicate with each other.

Balls accepted changes needed to be made through central government, such as changes to social work training, but refuted claims that social workers were forced away from the frontline because of excessive record keeping.

He told directors of children's services and lead members for children's services to tell social workers "to go out and do their job. Just as it is important for BASW to challenge us it is important for me to challenge BASW to do its job effectively."
