Early years’ ‘left out of lockdown easing strategy’ 

Early years leaders have expressed “frustration” after Boris Johnson failed to mention the sector as he revealed plans to ease lockdown on Sunday.

Despite the Prime Minister announcing that some school pupils would return from 1 June, he did not give a timeframe for nurseries to reopen.

Neil Leitch, chief executive of the Early Years Alliance, said: "Nurseries, childminders and pre-schools need a clear plan of action on how they are going to be supported, both practically and financially, to re-open as lockdown eases, but as it stands, it is unclear how – or even if – they are included in the government’s proposals.
