Government lobbied to close schools

A petition launched by the National Education Union calling on the government to close schools during November as England goes into lockdown has amassed 150,000 signatures in just 48 hours.

In addition, more than 20,000 teachers and school support staff have written to their MP and lobbied them on social media since Sunday afternoon, the union has said.
