In her response to the consultation on youth vaping, Dame Rachel urges the government to put in place stricter regulations for what she calls the this ‘wild west’ vaping market, including a proposed ban on the sale of disposable vapes which surveys have shown were used by 52 per cent of young people vaping.

Her other recommendations include for vapes to be sold in plain packaging with mandated age-of-sale signage and a ban on the sale of nicotine-free vapes which many believe are a gateway to vaping.

Dame Rachel said: “Children deserve to lead long, happy, healthy lives which is why I am unequivocal in my view that no child should be smoking or vaping. We have failed a generation if we allow these highly addictive, and sometimes dangerous, products to become mainstream.”
