Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the ban alongside measures including the introduction of plain packaging to reduce the attractiveness of the products to young people and restrictions on the marketing of vapes aimed at children.
The ban comes following an eight-week consultation on how to tackle increasing levels of vaping among young people.
A second consultation is set to be held to inform which flavours of vapes, which can designed to taste like sweets and fruit, will be banned to reduce the appeal of vaping to children.
Health Secretary Victoria Atkins told the BBC she was confident the new bill would pass parliament by the time of the general election - expected to be this year – and come into force in early 2025.
