
A monitoring visit to assess standards at Together for Children, a community interest company that took charge of children's services in Sunderland last year, found that early help services are improving, but the quality of practice and management oversight still needs attention.
Inspectors said the number of open early help cases had grown from 252 in April 2017 to 646 in December 2017 and that schools and Northumbria Police are now better engaged in providing early help support.
There was also evidence of good work with families who have complex needs and a new multi-agency forum to triage early help cases is proving effective.
