Children voice concerns over information sharing

Children and young people are concerned that personal information held on the government's ContactPoint database could fall into the wrong hands.

The children’s rights director for England, Roger Morgan, has published a report on the information sharing scheme today.

He found children and young people are worried that confidential information about them could be passed to staff who do not have authority to access it, or even attract paedophiles.

In the report, Making ContactPoint Work, Morgan found that 83 per cent of children and young people are concerned that information about them should be kept secure.

Morgan said: “Children want to be assured that their information will remain safe and confidential and have asked specifically that the government will never in the future put a child’s photograph or telephone number on the database.
