Children’s minister unable to confirm child benefit allowance levels

Appearing on LBC, the MP for Wantage, who was appointed as children, families and wellbeing minister last year, was asked by presenter Nick Ferrari to confirm current levels of child benefit allowance.

Johnston said: “I’m afraid, I don’t know; It’s not actually a Department for Education policy.”

He later admitted: “I should have found out before I came on here.”

Child benefit allowance is a policy overseen by the Department for Work and Pension and currently stands at £25.60 for a first child and £16.95 for each additional child.
