
Quince told BBC Radio Four’s Today programme that the Department for Education will visit other countries to look at how the early years sector is regulated.
“I am going to look at regulation and in part that’s because I need to see what is happening abroad, flying over to Sweden and France and the Netherlands and see how they do it differently,” he told presenter Nick Robinson who questioned the children’s minister on views held by some Conservative Party MPs that regulation in the UK, including around staffing ratios, is “too tight”.
Quince’s comments came in response to a discussion on the rising costs of childcare with input from Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) and Jo Morris, owner of Footsteps Day Nursery in Swindon.
