Children in care have their say

1 min read Social Care
Four in ten children in care or being supported at home worry about their safety, a new report from the Children's Rights Director for England has found.

Roger Morgan’s report, Children’s Care Monitor 2008: Children’s views on how care is doing, recorded the experiences of children in care or supported by social services as part of an annual monitoring process.

Subjects children were asked to report on included safety, education, bullying and care planning.

The survey found 40 per cent of children worried about their safety and listed drugs, strangers, kidnappers and alcohol as the biggest dangers to young people.

It also found disabled children were more likely to be bullied, especially in residential special schools, and one in five children said they had been bullied because they were in care.
