Children in care continue to be targeted by bullies

1 min read Social Care
One in five looked-after children and care leavers believe they have been bullied just for being in care, the annual children's rights director's care monitor report has found.

Roger Morgan's Children's Care Monitor 2009 is the second annual stocktake of the experiences and opinions of children in care.

Based on the views of 1,195 children in care and care leavers across England, the report shows there has been little change from last year in the percentage who believe their care status is linked to being bullied.

Just half of children think their opinions are routinely asked on things that matter to them, which is a similar figure to last year.

Morgan is now urging local authorities to take notice of the report's findings in order to improve their services. He said: "Local authorities must check the key issues from this report with the groups of young people they have in their locality."
