Child poverty schemes win funding

1 min read Early Years Education
Two pilot schemes working to reduce the effects of child poverty in London have been given funding of more than one and a half million pounds.

East Potential, which works in Tower Hamlets and Newham, and Empowering Action and Social Esteem, based in Ealing and Hounslow, have each been given grants of £800,000 by London Councils.

Both organisations will use the money for projects that attempt to break down barriers to the attainment of children and young people growing up in poverty.

The charity East Potential will work alongside primary schools attended by children on the Aberfeldy Estate in Tower Hamlets and the Cranberry Lane Estate in Newham to improve educational attainment and social and language skills. It will also offer work experience placements, interview skills and mentoring. The project will last four years.
