London councillors attack child poverty policies, BBC predicts more money for school sport, and union warning on sex education, all in the news today.

Labour leaders from the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney and Barking and Dagenham have sent an open letter to the government, accusing it of doing too little to tackle child poverty, the East London Advertiser reports. The letter said: “Whilst child poverty has decreased in each of our boroughs since the last set of statistics was released, we now see clear signs that it is increasing again, in large part as a result of the government’s misguided policies.” It follows research published by the Campaign to End Child Poverty in February that showed Tower Hamlets had a higher level of child poverty than any other local authority in the UK.
