Charity lobbies councillors for children in care

Social Care
The Fostering Network has launched a new campaign by posing the question, 'Do You Know Who Your Children Are?' to local councillors across the UK.

From this week, postcards will be sent to councillors to highlight their legal responsibility for children in care. The Fostering Network will also offer councillors the opportunity to meet with local foster carers to hear some of the challenges they face. It will provide them with an information pack, including a guide for councillors on how to be a good “corporate parent”.

Vicki Swain, campaigns manager at the Fostering Network, said: “We believe that every councillor in the UK has an important role to play in helping children in care to thrive.”

Over 72,000 UK children and young people are currently in care.  While more than 70 per cent live with foster families, the Fostering Network estimates that a further 10,000 foster carers are needed across the UK.
