Charities win £11m to boost social action

Forty-one voluntary and community sector organisations are to gain a share of £11m from the Cabinet Office to encourage young people to participate in social action.

The funding is part of the Cabinet Office’s support for its Step Up To Serve campaign, launched in November by the Prince of Wales.

UK Youth, the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services and the National Youth Agency are among the organisations to receive funding.

The cash will come from two streams: the Youth Social Action Fund and the Youth Social Action Journey Fund.

The former, worth £5m over two years, is part of the Cabinet Office’s Centre for Social Action and supports the delivery of projects in the areas of Birmingham, Kent, Middlesborough and Lancashire.

The latter Youth Social Action Journey Fund, worth £6m, supports existing youth groups to increase the number of places on offer nationwide.
