The Vulnerable and Disengaged Young People Fund is part of the Cabinet Office’s Centre for Social Action, which supports initiatives that encourage people to make positive changes through social action.
The fund, revealed by civil society minister Nick Hurd in October, will focus on improving outcomes for groups of vulnerable young people between nine and 24 years old, including young offenders and young people in care.
There are three types of grant on offer to develop new projects and expand existing ones.
Grants of between £30,000 and £100,000 are available to organisations wishing to develop a new social action initiative; similar grants are available to help groups build an evidence base of the impact of existing social action projects; and grants of between £100,000 and £250,000 are available to organisations wanting to "scale up" existing projects.
Successful applicants to the first round of bidding will receive funds in January, and all money is to be spent by March 2015.
The Social Investment Business, which is administering the funding on behalf of the Cabinet Office, will accept applications from voluntary, community and social enterprise sector charities, public bodies and businesses.
Applicants must prove that their previous work has had a positive impact on vulnerable young people and that they are able to create social action opportunities.
The deadline for applications is 6 December.
