The milestone has been reached as part of the organisation’s charity partnerships with Magic Breakfast and Akshaya Patra.
Both charities provide nutritious free meals to school children, ensuring they arrive in the classroom having eaten.
Since making their ‘meal for a meal’ commitment in 2015, for every breakfast served in Dishoom’s cafés, the team has donated a meal through Magic Breakfast, and for every meal served at lunch and later, they’ve donated a meal through Akshaya Patra.
During the pandemic, Dishoom offered the same ‘meal for a meal’ pledge through their ‘Dishoom at home’ meal kits which allowed fans to recreate popular dishes in their own kitchens.
In the past twelve months, Dishoom has donated more than 1.2m meals to their charity partners, with almost 250,000 meals donated through their at-home offerings.
Latest government figures showed that since the first Covid-19 lockdown in March last year, more than 300,000 children became eligible for free school meals.
To celebrate the success of the partnerships, Dishoom’s staff will run, walk and cycle ‘10 Thousand Miles for 10 Million Meals’ – the distance from London to Bombay and back.
Each team member is raising funds for Magic Breakfast, and for each mile covered, Dishoom will also donate a meal.
