
The charity's analysis also found that a further 700,000 children living below the poverty line were not even entitled to the meals because their parents worked too many hours.
In 57 of the English parliamentary constituencies examined by the charity, more than six out of 10 children in poverty did not get free school meals.
The figures were calculated by subtracting the number of children known to be registered for free school meals from an estimate of the number of children in poverty in each constituency.
In total, the charity estimated that 1.2m children living in poverty were either not registered, or not eligible for free school meals.
