The London based scheme, run by charity the LGBT Consortium, works with parent support groups to provide them with information and advice.
Part of the cash will be used to help train parents of LGBT young people to provide peer support on issues including homophobic bullying in schools and faith and homosexuality.
The money will also be used to offer local authorities advice on how to consider the parents of LGBT young people as part of local children and young people’s plans.
Lee Robinson, the parenting project coordinator, said: “We are the first project in the UK to focus on the needs of the parents of LGBT young people. We’re aiming to bridge the gap between mainstream and LGBT advice services.”
