Child experts from across the globe have converged on Cardiff this week, as the city hosted the WorldForum 2008, a three-day conference bringing together experts to consider the best methods of early intervention when children have problems.

The forum was co-hosted by Children in Wales and the International Forum for Child Welfare, and tackled issues such as mental health, family support, education and child protection.

First Minister Rhodri Morgan said: "This prestigious conference will provide a great opportunity for delegates from around the world to see for themselves how Wales is successfully implementing policy initiatives in the fields of education and child welfare. It will also be a great opportunity for delegates to share examples of good practice in these fields."

The conference took place in Cardiff City Hall, running from 29 September to 1 October. As well as professionals, the conference also brought young people from Hungary, Cyprus, Germany and Wales together for a six-day programme of activities.

Previous WorldForums have been held in cities such as New Delhi, Vancouver, Capetown and Buenos Aires. It has led to important initiatives, such as the spread of children's helplines across the world to countries such as India, Spain and Argentina.
