
Around 50 people attended an extraordinary meeting of the council, called by the opposition Labour group, which claims that the changes have not been subject to proper consultation.
It put forward a motion calling for the Conservative administration to reconsider the decision to reorganise local youth services and to carry out more consultation.
But the Conservative group put forward an amendment, which was subsequently passed, stating that there had been a £100,000 increase in funding for activities and that provision is in fact increasing. The changes involve offering grants of up to £10,000 to applicants who want to run local youth services.
Labour councillor Tony Gosling said the changes were being made without the consent of young people in the area.
