Despite having to make savings of more than £30m over a three-year period, the council has protected the youth services budget while allocating more funding to targeted and specialist youth work.
The council’s budget documents show that current funding for children, young people and families will rise from £11.21m to £11.46m.
The increase will see extra funding going to local youth projects and an extra £13,000 to the council’s youth enablement fund for youth groups across the area to apply for.
Meanwhile, in the spring, two new youth engagement workers will be appointed to work with those on out-of-work benefits, particularly 16- to 18-year-olds, to help them gain new skills and find employment.
