Calls for Haringey resignations after apology comes "too late"

1 min read Social Care
Haringey's MP has called for council resignations after the borough's lead councillor for children and young people apologised for failure to protect the child known as Baby P, who died in the borough 15 months ago following months of abuse.

Councillor Liz Santry said yesterday (13 November): "I have to say that we are truly sorry that we did not do more to protect him. Our duty is to protect our children. We did not do so in this instance and I would like to say how truly sorry we are."

But Haringey's LibDem MP Lynne Featherstone said the apology was "very late in coming".  She said: "They need to show this is genuine regret and not just a response to the public outcry.  To do this the leader of the council and lead councillor for children services should now resign so we can start re-building confidence in our local child protection services."
