Shoesmith loses appeal against dismissal in Haringey

Social Care
The former director of children's services in Haringey, where Baby P was killed, has lost her appeal against dismissal.

Sharon Shoesmith was sacked last month in the aftermath of the Baby P case. Her department was heavily criticised for failing to prevent Baby P's death, despite the fact that the child was on Haringey's "at risk" register.

The decision to reject Shoesmith's appeal was taken by a panel of Haringey councillors today (Monday 12 January) - a different panel from the councillors who originally sacked her.

A spokesman for Haringey Council said: "Ms Shoesmith will not be returning to work in Haringey. She will not receive any compensation package. She will not receive any payment in lieu of notice."

Shoesmith now has the right to launch an appeal at an employment tribunal.
