Brook tackles end-of-year teen pregnancy rise

Health
Sexual health charity Brook aims to combat the annual December peak in under-18 conception rates with a poster campaign.

On average under-18 conception rates for December and January are 25 per cent higher than other months. The festive Brook posters, which tell young people to "have fun, be careful" and use condoms, have been sent to schools, colleges and sexual health clinics.

Brook chief executive Simon Blake said: "December and January is a more risky time. Young people might not be aware of local clinic opening times, especially if pharmacies and clinics are closed over the festive season, or they may run out of pills and condoms so would need to think ahead. This is also a time when there will be more parties and many young people will be drinking alcohol."
