
Three in five teenage pregnancy co-ordinator posts are under threat in England, a CYP Now investigation has revealed, prompting sexual health experts to warn that progress in reducing pregnancy rates in the past decade could be cancelled out.
Freedom of information requests sent to all local authorities in England have revealed that 50 out of the 86 councils that currently employ teenage pregnancy co-ordinators - 58.1 per cent - cannot commit to funding the posts for the financial year 2011/2012.
The study found that 14 councils had already decided to scrap the post and a further 36 were unable to commit funding to the role because their children's services budgets were under review.
