Under promises laid out in its Child Health Action Plan the free breakfast clubs will ensure “every child is able to start the day with a healthy breakfast and parents are able to get to work”, says Labour.

Slashing waiting lists for mental health is another promise, which will be achieved by recruiting more specialist staff and deploying a mental health worker “in every school”. Open access mental health hubs “for every community” also forms part of Labour’s plans.

Improvements to mental health support will be funded through ending tax breaks for private schools and closing tax loopholes used by private equity fund managers.
