"You may have caught an analysis recently on cuts to youth benefits from BBC politics editor Nick Robinson. An analysis I was already pondering on, given the Labour 's much heralded policy to cut benefits to the under-21s, following hard on the heels of the Tories vowing to cut housing benefit to the under-25s. Why are young people becoming such a target for the political parties? Could it be that they just don't vote? I heard from a youth organisation that their young people had been told by a senior minister that this was the reason their needs were largely ignored. This spurred on the young people to get their peers registered to vote, engaged and voting. It's an uphill struggle and a reminder to us all of the importance of connecting young people with the decisions that affect their lives." Linda Jack on young people and benefit cuts

"The announcement in the Queen's speech that tax-free childcare is to be extended to under-12s from autumn 2015 will be welcome news for many lower income families. For authorities and providers, managing the funding associated with early years and childcare provision is likely to become a much more complex and labour-intensive undertaking as the changes are rolled out. But there could be a more efficient way of doing things that would not only simplify the process for children's services teams, but also make it easier for providers to meet their reporting requirements."
