Although both genders become more dissatisfied with their lives between 11 and 16, girls' satisfaction drops more rapidly. Girls' self-esteem levels also fall away, while those of boys remain relatively stable. Does this simply describe that moody teenage phase? Or can we do something about it? Policymakers need to respond to concerns raised about the role of culture, media and the web. Happiness matters - it's time it should be prioritised."
