Audit Commission to inspect Doncaster Council

The Audit Commission is to carry out an inspection of Doncaster Council following a damning serious case review that highlighted failings in the council.

The commission decided to take the rare step of undertaking a corporate governance inspection because of serious concerns about the council's performance over the past two years.

In December, Doncaster Council scored one out of four in its annual Comprehensive Area Assessment.

The decision to launch a snap inspection comes after a serious case review into the case of two young brothers' violent assault on two boys revealed serious failings by social care services and other partner agencies.

Representatives from Communities and Local Government and the Department for Children, Schools and Families met with Doncaster Council last week to discuss a package of support.
