Arts groups launch programme to reach vulnerable young people

A £1m programme to engage disadvantaged young people in arts and cultural activities has been launched in five English regions.

The two-year Strong Voices programme will see theatres, libraries, museums and art galleries working with youth projects to help young people access creative activities and find work in the creative industries.

The work is the result of a Department for Education grant to the Bridge England Network, a consortium of 10 arts organisations.

At national level Strong Voices is being managed by the music venue Sage Gateshead

At regional level a variety of cultural organisations will lead the work, which will take place in London, the North East, the North West, the South East, and Yorkshire and Humber.

In the North West the work is being led by Curious Minds, a social enterprise that seeks to increase children and young people's participation in arts and cultural activities.
