Anti-social behaviour: Councils to test out parenting courses

The children's minister has announced a shortlist of 20 councils to run parenting courses that tackle anti-social behaviour.

Beverley Hughes said last week that 15 local authorities would be chosenthroughout this year to test new parenting courses. Funding of 10m over two years is available.

All shortlisted authorities are being asked to prepare detailedproposals. The Government wants to see targeted support and courses forparents with children aged eight to 13 that are likely to behaveanti-socially.

Hughes said: "There can be a crucial gap in services between the goodsupport we offer parents in the early years and the more reactiveapproach to teenagers."

Parents will get tips on managing behaviour and dealing with drug andalcohol abuse.
