Antenatal programme for dads

1 min read Early Years
The Fatherhood Institute has launched an antenatal programme for dads-to-be.

And the institute is looking for children's centres and services across the UK to take part in the Hit The Ground Crawling programme.

The programme is currently being piloted in Staffordshire but the institute is hoping to roll it out nationwide.

The sessions help expectant fathers learn childcare skills from new dads and their own babies.

They are invited to have a go at changing nappies and holding the babies to get them used to fatherhood before their own children arrive.

The programme was developed from a similar and very popular scheme in the US.

Nicola Ellis, community development worker at East Staffordshire Children's Centre, said: "We have really positive relationships with our dads and seeing them building up relationships with their children is easily the best part of the job."
